Garrett Bradbury Talks After Day 1 of NC State’s 2018 Fall Camp: BULLETED

Published

on

Graduate Center Garrett Bradbury talked after Day 1 of NC State’s 2018 Fall Camp today. Here’s what he had to say in BULLETED form.

  • Doesn’t see the offense as having to pick up slack for the defense. Yeah, we have a bunch of guys returning on offense, but we have guys on defense that have played a lot of snaps. Trust those guys, and will be competing all Fall. Great competition up front, and in the secondary. We’re doing our job, and they’re doing theirs.
  • We’re all fresh. Had a great summer with Coach Thunder and his staff. Everyone feels a little bit stronger and faster. Everyone feels good today, but come back and ask me that again in a couple of weeks.
  • This offensive is fast. Uptempo pro-style offense. Our three things are rhythm, attack and execute. You’ve got to be in shape.
  • Looking to build some depth this season. Finding some young guys, because with the new 4-game redshirt rule, we can see which guys can play, and which guys can help us.
  • Last year we played with 8 linemen. You want to find 8 guys you can play with.
  • Could care less who they play 1st game (James Madison this year, versus South Carolina last year). Won’t start game planning until the end of the month. Couldn’t have told you the schedule two weeks ago.

WATCH: CJ Bailey’s Highlights from NC State’s Win Over LA Tech

Published

on

True Freshman Quarterback CJ Bailey was forced to come into the game last week after Redshirt Senior Grayson McCall was hurt. The Wolfpack was trailing, and many of the goals for the season were on the line.

Bailey got off to a rocky start, throwing his first interception on his 3rd career pass attempt. He seemingly was unfazed, completing all 7 of his pass attempts on his next drive.

On the day, Bailey was 13 of 20 for 156 yards, and he also rushed the ball 4 times for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Bailey is only the 3rd True Freshman to start at Quarterback for NC State since the turn of the century.

Check out Pack Insider’s highlight reel of Bailey’s performance against LA Tech.

Why is NC State vs. Clemson Called the Textile Bowl?

Published

on

NC State and Clemson have been playing one another since 1899, and have been members of the ACC together since its inception in 1953, and have played each other annually since 1971, but the Textile Bowl didn’t become a thing until 1981.

The textile industry historically was a backbone of the economy of both North and South Carolina, and NC State and Clemson historically have been two of the more prominent universities focused on textiles.

As a result, the Textile Bowl was created in 1981 by a joint effort between the two schools, to raise awareness of the importance of the textile industry on the economic development of their respective states.

In the past, textile students from one school, would travel to the opposing school the week prior to the game, to promote the impact of their school on the textile industry.

The winner of the Textile Bowl on an annual basis gets to keep the Textile Bowl Trophy, which is currently residing in Raleigh after the Wolfpack defeated the Tigers 24-17 last season.

Since the inception of the Textile Bowl in 1981, NC State is 12-28 in the series.

The Wolfpack is Looking for it’s 1st Win Against the Tigers in Death Valley Since 2002

Published

on

Tomorrow, the NC State football team has the opportunity to do something they haven’t done in over 20+ years: defeat Clemson in Death Valley.

The last time the Wolfpack defeated the Tigers at their place was on October 24th, 2002, when Philip Rivers’ led #12 NC State to a 38-6 win over their cross-state rival. NC State improved to 9-0, and Clemson fell to 4-4.

Dave Doeren arrived as NC State’s head football coach in 2013, and he has yet to walk out of Death Valley victoriously, losing all 4 contests.

2022 – 20-30

2018 – 7-41

2016 – 17-24 (OT)

2014 – 0-41

Wolfpack fans won’t soon forget the ending of the game down in Death Valley in 2016, when NC State place kicker Kyle Bambard missed a 33-yard field goal with time expiring in regulation to win the game.

Doeren is 2-4 against Clemson in Raleigh, giving him an overall record of 2-8 against the Tigers. NC State is on a 2-game winning streak against Clemson in Carter-Finley Stadium.
