Defensive Coordinator Dave Huxtable talked after practice yesterday about which players are standing out in the Wolfpack defense in Fall Camp. For all the quotes in full context, check out the video beolow. Or get the highlights in BULLETED form.

  • Redshirt Junior safety Jarius Morehead has taken control of the secondary, and Redshirt Senior safety Dexter Wright is just inches behind him. Not only for the secondary, but the whole defense. Vocal and inspiring.
  • Same thing for Graduate linebacker Germaine Pratt.
  • Really proud of those guys. They know that’s their role now. No one had to tell them. Took it upon themselves, and it’s been very impressive.
  • Need to improve on some of the big plays we gave up. A lot of times we were in position to make the play. Now we just have to make those 50/50 plays. We need more turnovers. There were times where the ball was on the ground and we didn’t get it. If the ball is on the ground, it has to be our ball.
  • At nickelback, Redshirt Junior has been hurt. Going to get him back soon. Had a great spring. Haven’t had him in Fall camp yet. Redshirt Junior Freddie Phillips is coming back from that Achilles. Love him. Awesome kid. One of the hardest workers on team, on and off the field. Tremendous athlete. Missed a lot of football in the past year. He has to get himself back in football shape, but is going to be a really good player. Freshman Tanner Ingle has been outstanding. Going to be a really good football player. Been so impressed with him.
  • Seniors Darian Roseboro, James Smith-Williams and Eurndraus Bryant have been in the shadows. Now it’s there time. They’ve been in the rotation, and played a lot of snaps. We’ll find the rotation at the nose position. They are playing with a chip on their shoulder.
  • Redshirt Sophomore Brock Miller is standing out at the linebacker position beside Pratt. He’s done some really good things. Sophomore Louis Acceus had a really good practice today. Redshirt Freshman Isaiah Moore had a hiccup the other day with an ankle, but he came back. All 4 of those kids, led by Pratt, all had good Springs, and are having a good camp. Freshman Calvin Hart has been sprinkled in there as well, and shown some promise.
  • The other cornerback position on the other side of Junior Nick McCloud is going to go all the way down to the end of camp. Sophomore Chris Ingram, Redshirt Junior Vernon Grier, Freshman Taiyon Palmer, Junior Kishawn Miller, Redshirt Senior Maurice Trowell…Coach Barlow does a good job with them, and we will get that rotation.
