Redshirt freshman DT, Ibrahim Kante has gone through a lot of change over the past few seasons. He’s come from New York to Raleigh, gone from DE to DT and went from a “weak” to a focused mentality that has Dave Doeren raving about his play this fall.

So what changed fromt he spring when Doeren wasn’t pleased with Kante’s play?

Well, just about everything.

Listen to Kante explain to the media. Full video is below and bulleted highlights are underneath.

  • Raleigh a lot different than (hometown) New York City. Go from place where there’s people and stores everywhere to a place that’s open and you have to drive everywhere. But have adjusted. Have family here and teammates have embraced him.
  • Was young coming out of HS and had to prove himself more at post-grad before coming to college.
  • Always knew about NC State’s D-Line before NC State reached out. Knew as far back as Mario Williams.
  • During redshirt year last season, got to see Chubb and the line as an 18 year old. Got to see them bust their buts everyday to be great. Took everyday seriously. Worked together.
  • Coach (Kevin) Patrick has been pushing him to keep going, and to get-up. ReaLLy been helpful.
  • Veterans have been helpoing out. Roseboro and all the guys came in during the summer to help the younger guys
  • Doeren wasn’t pleased with play in the spring. Very pleased in the fall.
  • Had bad attitude in the spring. Was thinking too much. Then over the summer began to really focus and working on the d-line and started to show in the Fall.
  • Was mad that he was moved from DE to DT, but no one is going to feel bad. and has to play hard no matter what position.
  • Had a weak mentality in the spring. Changed it now.
  • Trying to make plays in backfield. Play hard and take advantage of every play even though a little light for DT.
