The #16 NC State Women’s Soccer team (3-0-1) came up with a HUGE victory today, defeating #10 South Carolina (3-1) at home in the Dail Soccer Stadium.

At the end of the first half, no one had scored, but the Wolfpack held an 11 shot advantage. In fact, South Carolina didn’t get off a single shot in the half.

NC State would only get 3 shots in the second half, but fortunately for them, two of them were goals.

Junior Tziarra King scored the first goal of game 9 minutes into the second half on an assist from Senior Maxine Blackwood and Junior Kia Rankin.

Then Rankin did some scoring of her own, putting one in the net off of an assist from Freshman Jenna Butler at the 62 minute mark, giving the Wolfpack a 2-0 lead. To give you some context, the Gamecocks hadn’t given up a single goal through the first three games.

South Carolina did manage to score with 9 minutes left on the clock (outshot NC State 8 to 3 in the second half), but the Wolfpack prevailed, pulling off an upset on their home pitch.

King’s three goals on the season is tied for the ACC lead.

The Wolfpack has now won 9 straight regular season matches, and they will try to keep the streak alive this weekend as they head up for a match against Penn on the road Friday at 5pm.
