CB coach George Barlow talked to the media after practice. Above is the full video and below is the bulleted highlights.

  • Junior Keshawn Miller stood out at the camp they saw him at. Liked his playmaking ability, his passion and physicality. Very explosive for his size. Small, but plays with a chip on his shoulder
  • Teshaun Smith (Freshman CB) has been a pleasant surprise. Type of guy team has been focusing on bringing in. Taller, longer, but can transition.
  • Smith was pretty thin, but handled his body transition from HS to college really well.
  • Smith has been one of the more consistent guys in the secondary so far. Really impressive for true freshman. Learning defense and showcasing athleticism.
  • Wanted to see Nick McCloud (Junior CB) improve overall understanding of defense and show more confidence. He’s done that. Made sacrifices off the field. Biggest thing is confidence and poise. Need to see no fear, no panic. He’s done that.
  • RS SR Maurice Trowell’s move from WR to CB has been up and down. Green at the position, but has natural ability. When he’s on, he’s as good as anybody out there. Just needs to continue to learn defensive mentality and scheme. Continues to get better everyday.
  • Game him confidence to see Johnathan Alston’s transition from WR to CB last season.
