NC State Football’s Offensive Depth Chart vs. JMU (with notes)

NC State released their depth chart for the James Madison game this Saturday. Here’s a breakdown of the Offensive Depth Chart.

Notes

  • It looks like there is a position battle for Ryan Finley’s backup at quarterback, because there is an “OR” between Redshirt Freshman Matt McKay and Freshman Devin Leary.
  • It’s interesting to not see Redshirt Freshman Nakia Robinson in the 2-deep at running back. Instead, Freshman Ricky Person is behind Senior Reggie Gallaspy, with an “OR” between him and Freshman Tyler Baker-Williams. I assumed Person would claim the backup position at some point this season, but didn’t know it would be opening week.
  • Freshman Tyler Baker-Williams was at Safety, but was moved over to Running Back with all of the injuries at the running back position in Fall Camp. He did so well, that he stuck, for now.
  • Freshman Trent Pennix was doing really well at the beginning of Fall Camp, but then missed nearly 20 practices due to injury.
  • Graduate Senior Stephen Louis is obviously a starter, but it shows just how much the staff thinks of Sophomore Emeka Emezie to put an “OR” between him and Louis.
  • There had been a lot of good buzz about Redshirt Freshman Tight End Damien Darden in Fall Camp, and the hype was real, earning the starting job over Redshirt Sophomores Dylan Parham and Dylan Autenrieth.
  • The starters on the offensive line were pretty much assumed to be set heading into the 2018 season, but it was unclear who their backups would be. The most noteworthy inclusion in the 2-deep is Redshirt Junior Tyrone Riley at Right Tackle. The coaches have spoken highly of him in camp, and it looks like he has taken well transitioning over from Defensive End.
