Redshirt Freshman Thayer Thomas was huge in his first collegiate football game, returning a punt 40 yards, and then making a 16-yard touchdown reception. The VIDEO of what he had to say is above, and a BULLETED breakdown is below.

  • I was just trying to make some plays out there today. I put in a lot of work in the offseason to be prepared for this moment.
  • As soon as I got on the field, everything felt normal. Everything slowed down for me and I was comfortable out there.
  • It felt like a dream. As soon as I scored, it didn’t really feel real, but then everything sunk in.
  • In my heart, I want to be the guy. I don’t know if I would have expected me to score the first touchdown, but I was prepared for the moment, and went out there and made the play.
  • Hard work beats talent. I go out there and grind everyday in practice to prove I can play out there.
  • I know a lot of family and friends were here watching me. It meant the world to me. Had a lot of text messages. Not sure how I’m going to be able to respond to all of them, but it feels great.
  • Didn’t grow up coming to games at NC State. Dad played at Marshall, and mom went to West Virginia, so grew up going to to those schools. It’s great I get to play those two schools this year too.
