NC State’s Injury Situation after James Madison

Saturday was a hot and painful day for the NC State football team. Yes, they won their season opener against James Madison 24-13, but they were dinged up pretty good in the process.

Redshirt Graduate Senior Wide Receiver Stephen Louis (Starter) didn’t even dress for the game, due to a leg injury. I interviewed him on Wednesday after practice, and he was in full pads. Something must have happened on Thursday. The extent of his injury is unknown.

Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver Jakobi Meyers (Starter) rolled his ankle in the game, but played through the pain. At numerous points in the game, he was seen hobbling off of the field, but he managed to finish with the best game of his career: 14 receptions for 161 yards. Meyers was in a boot after the game, but he said he would be fine, and that it was simply precautionary.

Redshirt Senior Defensive Tackle Eurndraus Bryant (Starter) suffered a neck injury in the 2nd quarter. Big E picked up a fumble…ran with it…fumbled it himself…recovered it again…and had 3 players dive and smash his head trying to recover the fumble as well. Bryant didn’t move at first, but then his legs were moving, and as he was carted off the field, he gave the crowd a thumbs up. He was taken to the hospital, and the x-ray’s were negative. Bryant returned to the field in street clothes in the second half, and he said he could have played, but of course Doeren kept him out for safety reasons.

Redshirt Junior Defensive End James Smith-Williams (Starter) was injured in the first half, and was helped off the field by the training staff and taken to the locker room. Fortunately, Smith-Williams was back out on the field by the end of the first half. He was playing well prior to the injury.

Redshirt Senior Offensive Guard Terronne Prescod (Starter) was injured in the 3rd quarter, and was down for a second, but was able to walk to the locker room on his own. He came back out of the locker room to give a thumbs up to the crowd to let them know he was ok.

Redshirt Sophomore Tight End Dylan Autenrieth didn’t dress on Saturday, and he had a knee brace on. Autenrieth is a solid blocking Tight End for NC State.

Freshman Cornerback Taiyon Palmer was in the Murphy Center watching the game with Freshman Linebacker Peyton Wilson, and was wearing a walking brace. It looks like Palmer is out for the year. It wasn’t certain that Palmer would play this season, but the coaching staff spoke highly of him in Fall Camp.

Dave Doeren’s weekly press conference is today at Noon, and we will have to wait and see if we get clarity on some of these injuries.
