VIDEO: NC State’s Thayer Thomas Talks After Breakout Performance Against Georgia State

NC State slot receiver Thayer Thomas (Redshirt Freshman) spoke with the media after the Wolfpack trounced Georgia State 41-7 this afternoon. Thomas had 9 receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. He also made a 56-yard pass to Trent Pennix.

The VIDEO is below, and a BULLETED breakdown is below.

On if this is where he expected to be by the end of week 2…

  • I set preseason goals with Coach McDonald (Wide Receivers Coach). I wrote down a goal of having two touchdowns. I’m right there where I want to be. If I just keep going from here, and keep building, I’ll have a pretty good season.

On the one-handed touchdown grab…

  • The guy was holding my jersey in the back, so I couldn’t get both hands on it, but I was able to get one hand out there. Me, Stephen Louis and Emeka Emezie worked on one-handed catches all summer. Probably every other day we went out there and caught one-handers off the jug machine.
  • I feel like after I made that catch Ryan was looking for me. Made him more confident in throwing me the ball.

On the double pass play to Freshman RB Trent Pennix…

  • We were supposed to do the double pass play last week (James Madison). This week the defense gave us a look where we were able to make the play. I just caught it and threw it to the hash where he (Trent Pennix) was running to.

On the opportunity…

  • I’m blessed they trust me to go out there and play. They wouldn’t put me in positions if they didn’t trust me. That’s what I wanted to do this whole offseason. Gain their trust.
  • I know Jakobi (Meyers) had full confidence in me to go out there and replace what he’s able to do. He told me all week at practice “It’s your turn.” Whoever gets put in that position should be able to go out there and make plays, because the slot receiver in our offense is looked at a lot. Any receiver put in this position could have done it. Steph, Emeka, Kelvin, Jakobi last week.
