NC State Specializes In Football in Inclement Weather

Hurricane Florence is scarily approaching the coast of the Carolinas.

Obviously, a football game is not the most important issue at hand in our state with a storm of this magnitude bearing down on us.

Lives, property and people’s livelihood are endangered.

Even though the NC State vs. West Virginia game has officially been cancelled for this Saturday (and likely won’t be rescheduled in 2018), had it been payed, the Wolfpack would have stood a good chance if you just look at their resume in inclement weather.

Most recently, NC State defeated Notre Dame 10-6 in the midst of the remnants of Hurricane Matthew in 2016, which dropped 8 inches of rain on Raleigh.

Florence is projected to be the largest storm to hit North Carolina since Hurricane Fran (In fact it’s projected to be more powerful when it makes landfall.) Fran came through Raleigh 2 days before NC State hosted Georgia Tech in 1996. Even though the sun was shining brightly on that day, 162 trees had to be cut for the equipment to be able to get down from the field house, and much of the Raleigh area was still without power as the two teams battled it out in Carter-Finley stadium. The Wolfpack ended up losing that game 16-28.

NC State’s record in inclement weather is 11-6-1 dating back to 1933.
