PI EXCLUSIVE: 4-Star SF Patrick Williams Breaks Down NC State Official Visit

This past weekend 2019 4-Star Small Forward Patrick Williams took an official visit to NC State, and it was his 1st official visit. He joined 2019 5-Star Point Guard Jalen Lecque on his official visit. Williams listed NC State in his Top-10 along with Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland, Texas, Clemson, Louisville, Arizona, Florida State and Ohio State a little over a month ago, and the Wolfpack coaches had an in-home visit with him this week. ESPN ranks Williams as the #34 overall player in the 2019 class, which is right on the edge of being a 5-star prospect. They also rank him as the #2 player in the state of North Carolina.

The Crystal Ball over at 247Sports has one prediction in for Williams, and it is in favor of the Wolfpack.

Williams plays for West Charlotte High School (Charlotte, NC).

We caught up with Williams, and he broke down his experience in Raleigh. 

On his overall experience during his official visit to NC State…

“It was great, I really got to build a better relationship with the entire coaching staff & with the team. I knew the guys from North Carolina, but I got to hang with all the other players on the team.”

On his favorite part of the visit…

“My favorite part of the visit would be the atmosphere of the football game. It was an opportunity for me to feel the love that the NC State community gives to its sports. It was mind blowing to see how much recognition and praise the basketball team got from the students at the tailgate.”

On his time with the current NC State players…

“I would say I spent an equal amount of time with all of the players because Jalen (Lecque) & I would go to all their dorms and ask them questions about Coach Keatts: how he is on a daily basis and how they like being an NC State basketball player.”

On what he likes about NC State…

“Particularly, I like that NC State is close to home, I like the feel that I got being on campus, the energy that the entire coaching staff brings to the table everyday, the family vibe of the entire basketball program. I like the fact that Coach Keatts has coached pros because that is the ultimate goal. His belief in me really stood out from day 1. He really believes that I will develop into a pro in a short amount of time.”

On Kevin Keatts pitch for him to run with the Pack…

“Coach Keatts pitch has been one of belief and confidence. He’s made it clear that he sees me as a one-and-done, or at the maximum, two-and-done player. His pitch included playing me at all the guard spots because of their ability to interchange the one through four positions. He really believes that at NC State I will be as successful as I want to be. He mentioned that he has two scholarships open for my class, and has made it clear that he wants me filling one of those two.”
