Trea Turner has broken the Nationals’ All-Time Steals record in his 4th MLB season!

Trea Turner, who just entered the Washington Nationals record books this past week as the first player in franchise history to log back-to-back 40 steal seasons, is getting his name in there again. This time as an all-time leader.

Yesterday, the former Wolfpack SS reached 5 times, going 2-2 with 3 walks, an RBI, a run, and a stolen base. That stolen base was his 123rd stolen base, putting him past Ian Desmonds 122 and making him the Nationals’ all-time stolen base leader.

This is a huge accomplishment for a guy playing in only his 4th season (2 of which were shortened by injury). It’s especially impressive when you put it next to his career 290 average and his 43 career homers. Add in that fact that in today’s game of baseball stolen bases are few and far between, and those who steal are often slap hitters with no power, you start to realize how special Tuner really has been for Washington.

With only 6 games left, Turner needs 2 more HRs to join the 20-40 club.

We’re rooting for ya, Trea!

** Note: The Nationals have only been around since 2005 (they were previously the Expos), so this record only dates back to then.
