On Thursday night, the #21 ranked NC State Women’s Soccer team (8-2-2) hosted #15 Duke (8-2-2), and it ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Wolfpack were resilient, fighting off a very aggressive Blue Devils attack. Much of the match was spent on NC State’s side of the field, with Duke taking 20 shots compared to NC State’s 3. The Blue Devils took 6 corner kicks, and the Wolfpack had none. The Wolfpack was even down a player for the final 47 minutes of the match, after Senior Ella Bonner was ejected after being dealt a red card. Senior NC State Goal Keeper Sydney Wooten was forced to make 7 saves.

Despite all of this, NC State kept the Blue Devils out of goal until the 77th minute, but Junior Tziarra King responded with the equalizer 5 minutes later that tied the game. The goal was King’s 7th of the season, which ranks 2nd in the ACC.

The draw marks the first time that NC State has beaten or tied the Blue Devils since 2000, and the Wolfpack remains undefeated against Top-20 opponents in 2018. The Wolfpack hits the road tomorrow for their 1st ACCC road match against Notre Dame at 1pm.
