NC State vs. Boston College: Series Breakdown

on

NC State (4-0) will host Boston College (4-1) tomorrow for their 16th overall matchup.

Boston College holds the edge in the series, with a 9-6 record against NC State historically.

The first contest between the Wolfpack and the Golden Eagles dates back to November 7th, 1936, when NC State went up to Boston and left with a 12-7 victory.

The two played one another the next year in 1937 in Boston again (BC won 3-7), but then didn’t clash on the field again until 2005 when Boston College joined the ACC. Obviously the two have battled it out annually ever since as members of the Atlantic Division, with NC State holding a losing record of 5-8 against them since they joined the ACC.

In recent memory, the past 8 games have split right down the middle.

Dave Doeren and Steve Addazio both arrived in Raleigh and Boston respectively in 2013, and Doeren holds a 2-3 record against Addazio. Both of the Wolfpack’s victories over the Golden Eagles under Doeren have been on the road.

Tomorrow’s game will mark the 3rd time either team has been ranked in the Top-25 when the two teams faced each other. In 2006, unranked NC State defeated #20 Boston College 17-15 at home. Last season, #23 NC State handled their business against unranked Boston College on the road, coming home with a 17-14 ranking.

The Wolfpack enters tomorrow’s game as the #23 team in the land, and will look to improve to 3-0 against Boston College when 1 or both of them is ranked in the Top-25.

The past two years have been extremely competitive, with both games being decided by a single score.
