It wasn’t always pretty, and it was very stressful, but in the end NC State found a way to beat Boston College today 28-23, improving their record to 5-0 for only the 8th time in school history. The last time a Wolfpack team started a season with a 5-0 record was back in 2002, when they went on to finish with an 11-3 record (school record for most wins in a single season), and a victory over Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl.

NC State Teams to Start Season 5-0
(Rank after Winning 5th Game in AP Poll)
2018 – 5-0 (?)
2002 – 9-0 (17)
1991 – 6-0 (16)
1989 – 6-0 (14)
1974 – 6-0 (11)
1967 – 8-0 (5)
1909 – 6-0
1907 – 5-0

Seven of the eight Wolfpack teams to start 5-0 managed to win their next game to make it six straight. For this team to do that, they have to go through #4 Clemson on October 20th.

I know it’s all about how a team finishes the season, not how they start it, but when they do something that’s only been done 8 times since 1892, you have to tip your hat to them.
