NC State head coach Dave Doeren spoke with the media after practice yesterday before Saturday’s road matchup with Syracuse. ABOVE is the video, with a BULLETED breakdown below.

  • Syracuse has a good defensive front. They have always been a disruptive defense in regards to their pressures, but they are getting a lot more 4-man rush out of their front now. Those two defensive ends are very productive. They’re experienced. In fact, if you look on the offense and defense, there are a lot of Juniors and Seniors on both sides of the football.
  • Syracuse is +8 in turnover margin. Huge part of their game.
  • Our team was great about moving on. Told them that we are at the halfway part of the season. We’re 5-1. Got 6 games to focus on, one week at a time. Figure out what happened, learn from it, and move on.
  • Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey is a really good player. We expect to see both guys. How they do it is obviously something we are going to have to adjust to.
  • I’d love to have touchbacks on our kickoffs. I just can’t give him a 5-yard stronger leg. He’s doing the best he can with what he’s got. We’re covering kicks the best that we can. The one that got out against Clemson, we missed a tackle on the 19-yard line. Thought our guy was blocked in the back, but it didn’t get called. We lost leverage when he cut back on us. We’re trying to kick the ball as far as we can, as high as we can. I’d kick it into the stands if I could.
  • Their Special Teams Coordinator is a really good coach. They’re kids play really hard on it. They’re punter and kicker are playing at a really high level. #10 has been a good returner for multiple years.
