Is an NC State Men’s Basketball Player Transferring After the 1st Game of 2018?

The rumors are swirling that an NC State Men’s Basketball player is transferring.

We have heard from 2 reliable sources that the player in question is NC State Freshman Ian Steere (6’9″/261).

Is it official yet?

No, the school hasn’t released any info. That being said, we are hearing that Steere has submitted an official request to transfer.

At this point, it is our understanding the coaching staff is just as confused as you are reading this right now. No reason was given for his decision.

Steere was a 4-star prospect that saw 5 minutes of action in his first career college basketball game on Tuesday night against Mount Saint Mary’s, and had 4 points (2-2 FG), 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

If Steere is indeed gone, the depth of the Wolfpack front court is in serious jeopardy. Steere’s 2019 classmate Manny Bates is already lost for the season due to shoulder surgery, leaving Junior Wyatt Walker and Sophomore DJ Funderburk as the only players on NC State’s roster that are over 6’8″.

Keatts likes the option of running a small lineup, but he might not have the luxury of choice anymore.

The Wolfpack plays Maryland Eastern Shore tomorrow at noon, and if Steere isn’t on the bench tomorrow in PNC arena, rumors will become reality.
