Ian Steere Announces He is Transferring from NC State

Last Friday we reported that Freshman Ian Steere had left the team, and had submitted his name to the national transfer database. Steere wasn’t at the game on Saturday, and Keatts had this to say in the postgame press conference.

Ian Steere and I had a discussion yesterday about what his future may be here at NC State. Without going into too many details, I told him to sit back and take a couple of days to decide if this is the best fit for him, or if he feels like there is a another place for him to go. I don’t know where his head is at. I plan on having a conversation with him on Monday. I wanted to give him a couple of days to make sure he’s still excited about being at NC State. I hope it works out for Ian, because I think he could be a really good basketball player here. (PI)

Tonight Steere made his transfer from NC State official, after playing in 1 basketball game for the Wolfpack.

Steere played 5 minutes in NC State’s season opening victory over Mount Saint Mary’s, scoring 4 points and snagging 4 rebounds.

The exodus of Steere leaves NC State thin in the front court this season, with Graduate Junior Wyatt Walker and Redshirt Sophomore DJ Funderburk the lone players 6’8″ or taller that can play the 5. The loss of Steere will be felt much less next year, when the Pack adds 4-Star Manny Bates (missing season due to injury) and former 5-star prospect Sacha Killeya-Jones (sitting out this season after transferring from Kentucky). Honestly, Steere could have been lost in the shuffle next season.

We wish Steere the best wherever he lands next.
