NC State Women’s Soccer Defeats #7 Santa Clara in PK’s to Advance to Sweet 16
For the 5th time in school history, the NC State Women’s Soccer team has advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, defeating #7 Santa Clara in penalty kicks to seal the deal.
Senior goalie Sydney Wooten deserves the game ball. Santa Clara dominated the box score, with 25 shots compared to the Wolfpack’s 3, and 12 shots on goal, compared to 2. Wooten had 11 saves in the contest, sending what was a lopsided match on paper to overtime.

The match was scoreless until the 60th minute, when Santa Clara’s Maria Sanchez put the ball in the net. With 13 minutes left in regulation, NC State Sophomore Tziarra King followed suit, scoring her 10th goal of the season (team leader, 3rd in ACC).
It’s not over until it’s over! @tziarra ties this one up for @packwsoccer in the 78th minute!

This marks the 2nd time that NC State has advanced to the Sweet 16 in the last 3 years. Ironically, the Wolfpack’s opponent in the Sweet 16 in 2016 was Santa Clara, losing the match 3-0. Last night’s victory was sweet revenge.
The Wolfpack will face #4 UCLA on Sunday night at 9pm (ET) at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, who defeated Minnesota 5-0 last night.
