ABC: Non-verbal Child Communicates for 1st Time with NC State’s Ms. Wuf

ABC’s Bridget Condon shared a story last night that defines the Thanksgiving season seen in the video ABOVE.

Grayson Ketchie is non-verbal and “considered medically fragile,” but spoke for the very first time to Ms. Wuf.

According to an unspoken mascot code, when you are in costume, you aren’t allowed to speak…at least with words.

Ketchie and Ms. Wuf’s bond started when he was 3-years old, and their non-verbal connection has tied them together ever since.

While Ketchie has been lovingly embraced by the NC State athletics program over the years, I want us all to learn something from the relationship between this child and this mascot.

Love can’t be confined to words.

Love is an affection that is cheated of its power when it is reduced to one dimension.

Love is being silently present. Love is patient, even when the other person doesn’t have the words. Love is kind, accepting everyone. A genuinely loving smile can possess more authenticity than a slew of words. The gentle embrace of a friend or family member makes loving words tangibly realized.

Let the love expressed between Ketchie and Ms. Wuf encourage you on this Thanksgiving to show your gratitude towards others in more than words.
