Reggie Gallaspy (NC State) beats UNC in Overtime 34-28

Senior Running Back Reggie Gallaspy had never rushed for a touchdown against UNC, but he rushed for 5 today against the Tar Heels, leading the Wolfpack to a 34-28 victory over their rivals in overtime.

Gallaspy had a career day, rushing 27 times (career high) for 129 yards (career high) and 5 touchdowns (career high). His 5 rushing touchdowns, climaxing in the game-winning touchdown in overtime, tied the school record for rushing touchdowns in a single game.

The Pack was committed to the running game (to a fault) in this game, and Freshman Ricky Person also rushed for 66 yards on 16 carries (he left the game with an injury).

For the second straight year, Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver Jakobi Meyers crossed the century mark, reeling in 7 catches (9 targets) for 111 yards.

While Redshirt Graduate Senior Quarterback Ryan Finley didn’t have his best game, in fact it was his worst game against UNC. Finley completed 16 of his 28 passes for 200 yards for a passing efficiency rating of 110.

BUT…

Finley helped lead NC State to his first ever game-winning drive, resulting in a 1-yard Reggie Gallaspy touchdown…which was the first of his career.

For his legacy, Finley needed a win like this on his resume, no matter how ugly it was. He finished his career never losing to his rival.

NC State won this game without Redshirt Graduate Senior Linebacker Germaine Pratt (who ranked 2nd in the ACC in tackles) and starting Defensive End James Smith-Williams (Redshirt Junior) missed most the game with an injury.

Redshirt Sophomore Linebacker Brock Miller filled in nicely for Pratt, picking up a career high 6 tackles.

I’ve been an NC State fan my whole life, and while this game was agonizing to watch, I’m not used to winning games like this…and I’ll take it.

NC State is 8-3, and has beaten UNC 9 out of the last 12 times they’ve faced the wretched Tar Heels.
