NC State Wins Back-to-Back 9-Win Seasons for the 3rd Time in School History

NC State defeated East Carolina 58-3 today to pick up their 9th win of the season.

That’s a big deal.

You might be tempted to think I’m settling for mediocrity to think that 9 wins is something to celebrate.

That’s false.

NC State has played 126 years of football, and only 12 of those teams have won 9+ games.

2018: 9-3 (1 game left) (Final Ranking: ?) (Doeren)
2017 – 9-4 (Final Ranking: 23rd) (Doeren)
2010 – 9-4 (Final Ranking: 25th) (O’Brien)
2002 – 11-3 (Final Ranking: 12th) (Amato)
1994 – 9-3 (Final Ranking: 17th) (O’Cain)
1992 – 9-3-1 (Final Ranking: 17th) (Sheridan)
1991 – 9-3 (Final Ranking: 24th) (Sheridan)
1978 – 9-3 (Final Ranking: 18th) (Rein)
1974 – 9-2-1 (Final Ranking: 11th) (Holtz)
1973 – 9-3 (Final Ranking: 16th) (Holtz)
1967 – 9-2 (Edwards)
1927 – 9-1 (Tebell)

Only 4.8% of the NC State football teams have finished with 9+ wins in a single season.

The Wolfpack have won 9+ games in back-to-back seasons, which has only been done 3 times in school history.

2017-18
1991-92
1973-74

And there’s one game left.

Philip Rivers’ team in 2002 is the only team that won 10+ games (11).

This team has the chance to become the second with a bowl game victory.
