NC State O-Line Coach Dwayne Ledford A Serious Candidate for the App State Job

Yesterday Adam Rittenberg of ESPN reported that NC State Offensive Line Coach Dwayne Ledford is a serious candidate for the head coaching job at Appalachian State that recently opened up after the exodus of Scott Satterfield to Louisville.

Hearing that Appalachian State not surprisingly wants a coach with direct ties to the school to succeed Scott Satterfield. Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Nate Woody, NC State associate head coach/OL coach Dwayne Ledford and Georgia Southern defensive coordinator Scot Sloan all will be in the mix. Georgia State coach Sean Elliott could be an option, too, as he played and coached at Appalachian State. A 2-10 record this fall doesn’t help. (ESPN)

Ledford was a defensive/offensive lineman at East Carolina, and as a result, his name was spinning around as a candidate for the East Carolina job, that was recently filled with Mike Houston from James Madison.

Before arriving at NC State, Ledford was the Offensive Line Coach at Appalachian State from 2012-15. Ledford was a part of the staff that helped lead the Mountaineers to 11 wins back in 2015. That year, App State ranked 4th in sacks allowed, and 6th in rushing yards per game in the FBS.

Ledford’s impact at NC State over the past three years has been astounding. The Wolfpack have had three separate running backs rush for 1,000 yards the past three years behind his “Band of Brothers.” Also, they have been one in the best in the nation at keeping the quarterback safe. The Wolfpack rank 5th nationally in 2018 in sacks allowed, and were 2nd in the Power 5 last year.

Under his watch the past three years, the following players have earned All-ACC Honors:

Tony Adams
Will Richardson
Tyler Jones
Garrett Bradbury
Terronne Prescod
