Jakobi Meyers Legacy at NC State

Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver Jakobi Meyers will not be returning to NC State for his Senior season, taking his talents to the NFL in 2019. 

The quarterback who was transformed into a wide receiver leaves as one of the best to ever play the position at NC State.

Meyers came to NC State as a 3-star dual-threat quarterback prospect, and redshirted his Freshman season at the position, before being moved to wide receiver a week before the season opener of his second year on campus.

In all reality, Jakobi only played 2 full seasons as a wide receiver, and what he was able to accomplish in that short span is nothing short of remarkable.

In basically 2.5 seasons, Meyers finished 5th in Career Receptions, 8th in Career Receiving Yards, and 5th in 100-yard receiving games.

What he did on the gridiron this year was something to behold. When you break one of Torry Holt’s records, you know you’ve arrived.

In what was ultimately his final season at NC State, Meyers had 92 receptions for 1,047 yards and 4 touchdowns. The 92 receptions broke Holt’s record for receptions in a single season at NC State.

Meyers and Junior Kelvin Harmon leave as the best wide receiver duo in school history. The two of them earned 1st Team All-ACC honors this year, becoming the first tandem in ACC history to do so. The last Wolfpack receiver to earn 1st Team All-ACC honors was Jerricho Cothcery in 2003.

Jakobi is one of only 11 wide receivers in NC State history to be named to the All-ACC 1st Team.
