#8 NC State Women’s Basketball Crushes UVA 66-38, Off to Best ACC Start Since 1999-00

The #8 NC State Women’s Basketball team crushed Virginia 66-38 yesterday, improving to 17-0 on the year, and 4-0 in ACC play. The 4-0 start to conference play is the best start since 1999-2000.

Before the contest, the Wolfpack lost their 3rd player for the season. Redshirt Senior Armani Hawkins tore her ACL in the NC State’s victory over Pitt. Hawkins was averaging 9.8 minutes per game. She joins Redshirt Junior Grace Hunter and Redshirt Graduate Junior Kaila Ealey on the sidelines. Hunter tore her ACL against Duke, and Ealey suffered a knee injury in the exhibition game.

Four Wolfpack players finished the game in double-figures, led by Junior Erika Cassell’s 15 points. Cassell was 7 of 10 from the field, and snagged 10 rebounds, finishing with a double-double.

Redshirt Graduate Junior Kiara Leslie didn’t have a good shooting day (5-17), but finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks.

That’s two double-doubles.

Sophomore Kai Crutchfield and Freshman Elissa Cunane both chipped in 11 points.

Senior DD Rodgers has 10 rebounds, giving the Pack 3 players with double-digit rebounds.

The Pack held the Cavaliers to a meager 23.1% from the field, created 17 turnovers and were +15 in rebound margin.

NC State ‘s next game is on Sunday against Virginia Tech at home at 12:30pm.
