#23 NC State Loses 47-24 to #12 Virginia Tech in Ugliest Offensive Performance In Recent Memory

The game was cursed once former NC State player Ernie Meyers was put up on the Jumbotron, only to be announced as David Thompson.

David Thompson is only the greatest player in NC State history…arguably college basketball history.

One of the most embarrassing moments in PNC Arena history.

What might be more embarrassing…it took them nearly the whole game to find him in the crowd…DAVID THOMPSON HAD BEEN THERE ALL GAME.

Oh I think I figured out something even more embarrassing…

#23 NC State lost to #12 Virginia Tech 47-24.

That was the final score.

The Wolfpack scored 14 points in the 1st half, breaking the record for the lowest amount of points in half in PNC Arena history. NC State made quick work of it, breaking that record with the 10 points they scored in the second half.

That wasn’t all of the history made today. Allow me to break it down for you.

(Before you read the following sentences, I want to give a disclaimer. Each sentence will be more painful than the one before. Read at your own risk. If you like pain and embarrassment…you will enjoy the rest of the piece.)

Today’s 24 point output is the lowest by NC State in the shot-clock era (1985-86). The Wolfpack lost 38-36 to Princeton on November 12, 1997. (Link)

Today’s 24 points is the 2nd lowest by the Wolfpack in a single game since the formation of the ACC (1953). The worst? NC State defeated Duke 12-10 in the 1968 ACC Tournament. (Link)

The 24 points are the fewest scored by a Division-I team this decade. (Link)

The 24 points is the 2nd lowest output by a ranked team in the shot-clock era (Link).

NC State shot 16.7% from the field…the WORST SHOOTING PERCENTAGE IN A SINGLE GAME IN ACC HISTORY. (Link)

The Wolfpack made history for all the wrong reasons today.

I could write more, and will later about all that went wrong in this game, but for my sanity and yours, I’m done writing this article.
