Gunter put his name into the Transfer Portal at the end of January, and took an official visit to Syracuse on September 7th. The next week he signed his letter of intent to play for the Orangemen.
Sometimes plans change.
Gunter has now officially committed to run with the Wolfpack, and will wear a blueshirt starting on the first day of Fall camp.
As a blueshirt, he isn’t allowed to take an official visit to Raleigh, and can’t be actively recruited by the Wolfpack coaching staff (in-home visits). Gunter will arrive on the first day of Fall camp, instead of in June like the rest of the incoming players. He also will receive his scholarship on the day he arrives. The unique thing about a blueshirt player, is their scholarship counts to the next years class, and not the current, meaning Gunter’s scholarship counts to the 2020 class.
Ultimately he chose to come home, playing his high school football at Riverside High School in Durham.
Gunter exploded in 2018, earning All-Sun Belt honors, after recording 49 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and five sacks. According to NCAA transfer rules, Gunter will have to sit out this years, and will have 2 years of eligibility.
