3-Star CB Joseph Johnson Commits to NC State

After visiting NC State 3 times over the past two months, 3-Star 2020 Cornerback Joseph Johnson (6’3″/180) decided it was time to make it official, committing to NC State today.

Johnson has an impressive offer sheet, choosing to run with the Wolfpack over offers from Penn State, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Duke, Wake Forest and others.

Out of all of those offers, the one from the Nittany Lions was likely the hardest to turn down. After picking up the offer on an unofficial visit back on March 16th, Steve Wilfong, Director of Football Recruiting for 247Sports, submitted his Crystal Ball prediction for Johnson to go to Penn State (he changed it today right before the commitment).

Johnson had 40 tackles, 4 pass breakups and 2 interceptions for Life Christian Academy (Chester, VA) as a Junior this past season. He earned 2nd Team All-State this past season as a Junior.

At 6’3″, Johnson possesses the height that defensive back coaches dream about. That height is accompanied by speed, running a 4.49 40-yard dash.

247Sports ranks Johnson as the #13 player in the state of Virginia, and the #3 Cornerback in the commonwealth.

Johnson is the 4th commitment in the Wolfpack’s 2020 recruiting class.
