PI EXCLUSIVE: DT Jaylen Smith Talks NC State Commitment

Back on February 23rd, 3-Star Defensive Tackle Jaylen Smith (6’4″/270) became the 3rd member of NC State’s 2020 recruiting class, after receiving an offer from the Wolfpack on January 26th. Smith plays for Hertford County (Ahoskie, NC), and is ranked as the #23 player in the state by 247Sports.

I caught up with Smith recently to get his take on why he chose to run with the Wolfpack.

I loved the surroundings and it felt like home, and State has always been #1 on my list for football. I grew up an NC State fan.

Coach Patrick and I have had a good and close bond. Guys like Bradley Chubb and BJ Hill have been inspirations to me.

To be honest, I was beyond happy when Coach Doeren sent me the news about his extension. He’s laid back and all-in.
