Nebraska G Thomas Allen Transfers to NC State

Nebraska guard Thomas Allen (6’2″/184) is transferring to NC State.

The irony is this is the 2nd time Allen has committed to play basketball at NC State.

Allen originally verbally committed to NC State on October 2nd, 2016, as a member of the Wolfpack’s 2016 class. He was a 4-star prospect out of Garner High School, ranked as the #103 overall player nationally, and the #4 player in the state of North Carolina. Before playing college ball, Allen did prep one year at Brewster Academy, like current NC State signee Jalen Lecque. After Mark Gottfried was fired, Allen decommited, and newly appointed head coach Kevin Keatts granted his release from his letter of intent.

Once he was back on the market, Kansas, Xavier, Creighton, Ole Miss, and Xavier came calling, but he ultimately decided to commit to Nebraska.

Allen played in 32 games as a reserve as a Freshman, averaging 3.2 points in 9.9 minutes per game. This year, he earned a starting role, getting the starting nod in 25 of the 29 games he played in. Allen averaged 8.7 points, shooting 36.4% from beyond the arch as a Sophomore.

He decommitted from NC State after Gottfried was fired, and he decided to transfer from Nebraska after head coach Tim Miles was fired two weeks ago.

Unless granted a waiver, Allen will have to sit out next season, and then have two years of eligibility remaining. According to Joe Giglio of the N&O, he is expecting to have to sit a year.
