N&O: NC State to Receive Roughly $100k in Restitution from Gatto

Published

on

Back in February, NC State requested $258,585 in restitution from convicted former Adidas executive James Gatto, as well as $23,900 for Dennis Smith Jr.’s 1 year of college tuition.

It looks like they will have to settle for a little bit less.

According to Steve Wiseman’s report in the News & Observer, Gatto has agreed to pay NC State $79,026.75 in restitution, as well as the $23,900 for Smith’s Tuition.

Total Restitution: $102,296.75

The understanding behind the restitution is that because Gatto and his team distributed the money unbeknownst to the University, the institution was set up to offer a scholarship to a player under “false pretenses.”

Keep in mind, the Wolfpack’s victory in this case doesn’t mean that the NCAA will not eventually enforce sanctions on the NC State Athletic Department. When all of the federal cases wrap up (whenever that will be), the NCAA will take their stab at it.
