RALEIGH – In a game that featured seven lead changes and five ties, the No 2 NC State baseball team dropped a hard-fought battle with 24th-ranked Coastal Carolina on Wednesday evening at Doak Field at Dail Park, 7-6.

The Wolfpack splits with the Chanticleers in 2019 after earning a 7-6 (11) victory in Conway, S.C., in February, as it moves to 29-5 on the season and the Chants improve to 23-11-1.

Quick Hits

-Coastal took the lead right away in the first with Jake Wright’s two-out solo shot to right.

-The Wolfpack countered in the bottom frame though to knot the score via Luca Tresh’s hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

-The Chants re-gained its lead thanks to Kieton Rivers’ sac fly to center field after a leadoff ground-rule double and groundout to second placed Cory Wood at third.

-Patrick Bailey’s leadoff homer in the home half of the third knotted the score back up, and Brad Debo’s based-loaded sac fly to right field in the frame gave the Pack its first lead of the contest.

-Coastal responded in the fourth with a leadoff homer, its second of the game, to right field to once again tie the game back up, and another leadoff homer in the fifth gave the Chants a one-run advantage.

-Tresh scored on a double play in the fifth to level the contest after a leadoff double and Debo’s single through the left side allowed him to threaten.

-Rivers’ RBI single up the middle in the sixth provided Coastal a one-run advantage after Wood drew a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a sac bunt.

-Evan Edwards went deep to center field to plate the go-head run in the bottom frame after Bailey reached base on a two-out single. It was his team-leading 10th long ball of the year.

-The score held for two innings, but Coastal’s Parker Chavers hit a two-run blast to ultimately plate the game-winning run.

Inside The Box Score

-Bailey led the squad with a 3-for-4 performance, as he belted his seventh home run of the season.

-Tyler McDonough (2-for-3) and Debo (2-for-4) also turned in multi-hit performances.

-Bailey and Edwards kept their reached base streaks alive, extending to 34 consecutive games, while Edwards extended his hit streak to 15.
