2020 NC State WR Commit Nate McCollum Earns 4th Star with 247

247Sports bumped a few 2020 football recruits from 3-star prospects, to 4-star prospects yesterday. NC State Wide Receiver verbal commit Nate McCollum was one of them.

NC State WR commit Nate McCollum – McCollum was unranked and unevaluated prior to his commitment to the Wolfpack. When we turned on the film for an evaluation it quickly popped. He’s an explosive, one-cut runner with the ball in his hands and he has incredible big-play potential evidence by 764 yards receiving on only 22 catches last season. That equates to a ridiculous 34 yards per catch. While we haven’t had much of an opportunity for in-person evaluations, McCollum gives us added confidence for a big initial rankings debut because of his background in baseball and his 6.33 60-yard dash time, a 99th-percentile number. We still need to validate size, ball skills and route-running ability with some in person evaluations but his explosiveness, special teams value and versatility all look unique.

The move: From unranked to a four-star outside the Top247 with a 90 rating, McCollum has an opportunity to climb even higher as we learn more about him and get live evaluations.

McCollum committed to NC State on March 31st, after receiving an offer from the Wolfpack on February 22nd.

NC State now has two 4-star commits in the 2020 class, and they both happen to be wide receivers. McCollum joins Porter Rooks, who is ranked as the #93 player overall nationally in the 2020 class, and the #3 player in the state of North Carolina.

The Wolfpack are in a really good position with numerous other 2020 wide receivers at this point, but they can’t take them all, and they all wouldn’t want to play together.

NC State is in a really good position with 3-star Antonio Barber, as well as 4-star Mushin Muhammad III, who is teammates with Rooks at Myers Mark.

There are other 2020 Wide Receiver prospects they have had on campus as of late.

The Wolfpack were expected to take a max of 3 wide receivers this go-around, but will they really turn down either Barber or Muhammad? Maybe a bigger question, would they both want to come?

We could be looking at a situation of who commits first.

NC State’s 2020 football recruiting class ranks 22nd nationally according to 247Sports.
