#20 NC State Men’s Tennis Falls to #1 Wake Forest in ACC Tournament Semifinals
CARY, N.C. – After reaching the semifinal round of the ACC Championship for the first time in program history, the NC State men’s tennis team saw its run at the conference tournament come to an end as it was defeated by top-seeded Wake Forest, 4-2, Saturday at the Cary Tennis Park.
The decision moves the Wolfpack to 18-10 on the season, while the Demon Deacons improve to 28-3.
A competitive doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on the deciding court.
42nd-ranked Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden defeated No. 64 Alan Gojiev and Borna Gojo 6-4 on court one after Wake Forest took the first match on court three.
The decision came down to a matchup between NC State’s Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic and Wake Forest’s Bar Botzer and Petros Chrysochos. The No. 41 Demon Deacon duo managed to take the 7-6 (4) win to clinch the doubles point for Wake Forest.
Robert Turzak got NC State on the board with a quick 6-1, 6-1 singles victory over Robert Cungu. Georgiy Malyshev was also able to notch a straight-sets win over Siddhant Banthia as his 6-4, 7-6 (5) decision added the Wolfpack’s second team point of the outing.
Wake Forest earned wins on courts two, three and five to advance to the ACC Championship finals.
