NC State Signee Officially Declares for 2019 NBA Draft

NC State Signee Jalen Lecque has officially declared for the 2019 NBA Draft.

Three weeks ago Lecque submitted paperwork to determine whether or not he in fact was eligible for the Draft. The answer was yes, hence his announcement today. With that being said, this announcement doesn’t rule out Lecque playing for NC State tomorrow.

Lecque will participate in the NBA Combine and team workouts to help him make his decision. He has either until May 29th (NCAA Early Entry Deadline) or June 10th (NBA Early Entry Deadline). I’ve seen both dates in reference to Lecque. He technically isn’t an NCAA athlete yet, though he has signed an LOI, so maybe the June 10th date applies to his circumstance.

Lecque is a 4-star prospect that 247Sports ranks as the #33 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class. He verbally committed to NC State on October 2nd of last year, and signed his national letter of intent in November.

Originally a member of the 2018 class, playing for Christ School (Arden, NC), Lecque reclassified to the 2019 class, playing a year of Prep ball up at Brewster Academy this year.

Lecque averaged 12.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.5 steals this year, helping Brewster win a National Championship.

Lecque will have to work really hard to prove he’s a first round pick over the next month. I can’t find a single mock draft where he is. If he’s not a projected 1st rounder, I would hope he would end up in Raleigh next season.
