NC State Ranks 11th in Final Winter Directors’ Cup Rankings

With the conclusion of the Women’s Gymnastics season, the Final Winter Directors’ Cup Rankings are out, and NC State is sitting pretty at 11th. Last year they finished the Winter ranked 5th, and ended the year ranked 15th

The Wolfpack moved up 3 spots after the Women’s Gymnastics team finished ranked 25th, netting 47.5 points. Last year they finished 13th, picking up 59.25 points.

Once again, the Women’s Basketball team finished 9th, picking up 64 points. Unfortunately, the Men basketball team picked up 0 points this year. Last year, the boys finished 33rd, and picked up 25 points.

The Men’s team finished in 4th place with 80 points once again this year, but the Women’s team stepped it up a notch this year. Last year the ladies finished in 18th place with 56 points. This year they finished in 7th place with 72 points. 

The Wrestling team took a slight step back this year, but still picked up points. Last year they finished in 4th place with 77.5 points. This year they finished in 17th place with 57 points. 

This year, neither Men’s or Women’s Indoor Track & Field teams picked up any points. Last year, the Men’s team finished in 45th place with 26 points.

To summarize how NC State finished the Fall:

The Wolfpack Women’s Cross Country team won their 3rd straight ACC Championship (24th overall), and the Men’s team finished 3rd. In the NCAA Championships, the Men finished 11th, and the Women finished 13th, marking the first time both teams finished in the Top-15 since 2003.

The NC State Women’s Soccer Team finished ranked in the Top-25 for the third consecutive season (first time since 1990-92), landing at #21 in the TopDrawerSoccer Poll, and a record best 18th in the RPI rankings. The Wolfpack advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year (first time since 1994-96), and to the Sweet 16 for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.

The Wolfpack Men’s Soccer Team finished at #24 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top-25 Poll, advanced to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the 1st time since 1991-92, and won their first game in the tourney since 1994.

NC State picked up 0 points from their Women’s Volleyball team this year, whereas they picked up 50 last year after winning their first NCAA tournament match ever. Last year the Wolfpack won 23 matches, compared to 15 this year, failing to advance to the dance.

The Football team finished with a 9-4 record, but saw a drop off this year, finishing outside the Top-25 in the Final AP Poll. Last year they tallied 51 points from Football in the Directors’ Cup standings, and this year that was cut in half.
