SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Despite taking an early lead, No. 13 NC State baseball surrendered a combined four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to drop its rubber match against Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend, Ind.

The Wolfpack moves to 33-12 on the season and 14-10 in ACC play, while the Fighting Irish improve to 19-23 overall and 12-12 against conference opponents.

Quick Hits

-It took just three-at bats in the first half inning of the contest for the Pack to jump out to early 1-0 lead. Jonny Butler led off with a single to right center, then threatened at third on Tyler McDonough’s single through the right side. Patrick Bailey hit into a double play, but it allowed Butler to cross home plate.

-Four innings later, the Irish knotted the score at one. Starting pitcher Canaan Silver issued his first walk of the game to Jared Miller, who advanced to second on a sac bunt then scored on Zack Prajzner’s single to shallow right field.

-Notre Dame tacked on three more runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. A pair of walks and base hit loaded up the bags, and Eric Gilgenbach’s single to left field followed by Miller’s sac fly to left field foul territory plated the first two runs.

-With runners at the corners, David LaManna drove in the third run on the very next at-bat thanks to his single to left field.

-The Pack put a runner in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings, and a runner on first in the ninth, but couldn’t find a late scoring opportunity to battle back from its deficit.
