NC State Women’s Tennis Will Host NCAA Championships First and Second Rounds for 1st Time in School History
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time in school history, the NC State women’s tennis team has been selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship. The top 16 teams have the opportunity to host, and the Pack is currently tabbed at No. 12 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings.
The Wolfpack (22-6) will compete at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on NC State’s campus, taking on VCU (18-5) in the first round on Saturday, May 4. Times for this weekend’s matches are to be announced.
The selection marks the fourth consecutive year of NCAA postseason competition for the Pack, the longest streak in the history of the program. Monday’s announcement marks the 10th NCAA Championships berth for the program.

A win over VCU would advance the Wolfpack to the second round, where it would face the winner of the match between Tennessee and Furman on Sunday, May 5. All matches are to be played at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
In Simon Earnshaw‘s fifth year at the helm of the program, the team has reached new heights. Named the 2019 ACC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year, he led the squad to a program-best 22 wins and a 22-6 record. The team also eclipsed the previous school record of seven ACC wins with 11 conference victories. The Pack finished tied for third in the conference, also a program-best mark.
NC State advanced to the ITA Indoor National Championship for the first time in school history and had its first-ever win over Miami (Fla.) and its first win over Georgia Tech since 1998.
To add to the already impressive resume, the team continued to rise through the ranks, besting program records in the category, before reaching its peak at No. 9 this season.
With the announcement of the 2019 All-ACC teams, the Pack had multiple players named to the team for the third consecutive year (Anna Rogers, Alana Smith).
First and second round NCAA Championships matches will take place at campus sites across the nation. 16 teams will advance out of the first weekend and will compete in NCAA Super Regionals hosted on campuses across the nation. Teams that advance to the Elite Eight will meet in Orlando, Fla., from May 17-19 to finish the team championship.
The singles and doubles championships will also be played in Orlando, Fla., from May 20-25 following the conclusion of team competition, with the qualifiers set to be released on Tuesday.
