SS Will Wilson to Participate in Senior Day, Projected 1st Round Pick

NC State Junior Shortstop Will Wilson will be participating in Senior Day on Sunday afternoon in the Wolfpack’s final game against Clemson.

Why is Wilson participating in Senior Day a year early?

Because he will likely be a 1st round draft pick in the 2019 MLB Draft in June.

According to the most recent Mock Drafts, Wilson looks to make a pretty penny next month.

MLB.com projects Wilson to go 24th overall to the Cleveland Indians.

24. Indians: Will Wilson, SS, North Carolina State

Wilson would add to Cleveland’s seemingly endless supply of middle infielders who are gifted hitters.

MLB

Perfect Game and CBS Sports both project the King of Kings Mountain to go 29th overall to the Oakland A’s.

In a draft light on impact college middle infielders, Wilson and his wonderful baseball name have a chance to be drafted much higher than I have him in the mock draft. He’s a righty hitter with a quick bat and an aggressive approach — Wilson went into the weekend with way more strikeouts (37) than walks (22) in 40 games, which is unusual for a first-round draft prospect — and a chance to remain at shortstop. The sexiest pick? No, but quality middle infielders are always in demand.

CBS

Wilson is viewed as one of the top hitters in the class, though concerns about how likely he is to stick at shortstop in pro ball as well as how much power he’ll ultimately have do push him down the board a touch. He could potentially go much higher than this to the right team, and while perhaps not sexy, his profile is that of a quality major leaguer.
