Tommy John Surgery Suggested for Carlos Rodon

Former NC State All-American Pitcher Carlos Rodon has been put on the Injured List due to elbow inflammation, and Tommy John Surgery is one of the options “on the table”, and has been “suggested.”

Obviously they are going to get a second opinion, but news is expected this week on what the path forward will be.

Rodon is obviously not pleased with the possibility, already going under the knife for shoulder surgery back in 2017.

“If it’s Tommy John, so be it,” he said.

“It’s super-frustrating,” Rodon said. “It’s something that was not in anyone’s control; it’s no one’s fault. Things like this happen. Second time now something like this happens; there’s not much you can do. You just have to roll with it.’’

“It’s just been tight over the whole season, but nothing really like yesterday,” Rodon said. “Yesterday kind of got me a little bit. It didn’t really loosen up like it normally does.’’

The possible reason for the elbow inflammation could be the Tommy John Twist seen in the picture below.

Rodon pitched well through his first 5 starts this year, but was shelled in his final two starts, ballooning his ERA.

If Rodon in fact has to undergo Tommy John Surgery, he would miss the remainder of the 2019 season, and a chunk of 2020.
