Rogers & Smith Capture Advance to NC State’s 1st Elite Eight at NCAA Doubles Championships Tonight

ORLANDO, Fla. —Anna Rogers and Alana Smith advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championships Elite Eight on Wednesday afternoon for the first time in program history. The seventh-ranked duo took down the 31st-ranked duo of Hanna Mraz and Sofia Gulihur (Oklahoma State) in the round of 16, 6-4, 6-0, to move into the tournament quarterfinals.

Rogers and Smith are the program’s first All-Americans after earning a top-eight seed; Rogers also earned All-American honors with a top-16 seed in the singles draw.

Tied as the highest-ranked doubles tandem in program history, No. 7 Rogers and Smith improve to 35-5 in doubles competition and collect their 15th top-50 doubles win of the 2019 campaign.

After swapping the opening six games of the first set, the Pack broke and held serve to take a 5-3 lead. The Pack captured the set, 6-4, leaving only six games between the Pack and its first trip to the Elite Eight in the program’s history.

Rogers and Smith carried the momentum into the second set, taking seven consecutive games between the two sets to seal the match with a dominant 6-0 closing set.
