NC State Junior Will Wilson will likely be taken in the 1st round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft tonight. Here are the latest Mock Draft Projections for Wilson before he likely hears his name called tonight.

There has been no more conservative General Manager when it comes to the draft than Jerry Dipoto. He takes a college talent first, one who has a high floor and then goes for a prep talent with ceiling in round two. Will Wilson is the safe, high performing type of player the Mariners have taken year after year. He is the sliding college talent who they can grab and makes the most sense at this point in the draft.

Wilson has made steady improvements throughout his three seasons at the college level, improving his power and plate discipline along the way. He’s considered very comparable to Stott, with a little less projectability and some concerns about whether he can still at shortstop in the majors or if he’ll have to move to second base.

The Score – 23rd – Colorado Rockies

If the Rockies opt to go for a college bat, the best available is likely Wilson, who’s part of a deep crop of polished shortstops. Of the remaining group, Wilson has the highest floor and the most power.

MLB Daily Dish – 27th – Chicago Cubs

Fantasy Pros – 10th – San Francisco Giants

–You can bank on a college bat here. Wilson might be a reach, but he profiles as a typical Giant selection with production and safety behind his name.

Fantasy Pros

ESPN – 18th – Pittsburgh Pirates

CBS Sports – 24th – Cleveland Indians

Should Busch still be on the board, the Indians would likely grab him. Since that is not the case in our mock draft, we have Cleveland going with Wilson, a do-it-all college infielder who seems to be Plan B for lots of teams in the back-half of the first round. Texas A&M’s Braden Shewmake and Clemson’s Logan Davidson are possible alternatives, though it’s not out of the question that the Indians go for a high school kid with a big arm here. Daniel Espino (Georgia) and J.J. Goss (Texas) could be in that mix.
