Head Coach Dave Doeren spoke with the media after NC State’s 2nd practice of the season. You can watch the video here, or check out the bulleted breakdown below.

  • Ricky Person had a postseason repair. Just taking time with protocol. Had a lot of things when he got here: wrist–>hamstring–>hip. Wanted to get him right heading into camp. Now he’s doing everything. He’s almost 250 lbs. Gained weight. Looks good. Most experienced back. Oldest guy we’ve got. Huge having him in there.
  • Haven’t seen Trent Pennix’s transformation yet on the field. Hasn’t gotten out on any of his runs, because defense was in right place. Trained hard. Excited to see.
  • I think it’s the deepest RB group I’ve had. 3 new guys: Bam, Jordan Houston and Delbert Mimms. Trent and Ricky, already talked about. 5 guys that can play. Need to get them a ton of reps now.
  • Assuming Ricky or Trent will handle 3rd-and-short. Delbert’s a thick kid too. Just don’t want to expect that from the freshman quite yet.
  • Jordan Houston’s really good out of the backfield too. Good receiver. He’s impressive. He’s quick. Good vision. Explosive. Chip on his shoulder. I like watching him play.
