Could Jacoby Brissett be Traded for a 1st Round Pick?

Former NC State Quarterback Jacoby Brissett is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and with starter Andrew Luck out with a calf strain this preseason, the former Wolfpacker finds himself in a position to raise his value to the Colts, and also in the eyes of the rest of the league.

Brissett is taking all of the 1st team snaps in camp, and will start for Indianapolis tonight in their first preseason game against Buffalo.

In 12 career preseason games, Brissett has passed for 1,247 Pass Yards, at a 66% completion rate, with 6 touchdowns (1 interception).

While only taking 18 total snaps in 2018, Brissett has proven that he can be “the guy”, starting 15 of 16 games in 2017, after Luck went down with an injury in Week 1.

Colts Head Coach Frank Reich couldn’t have a higher opinion of Brissett, and thinks that he’s a Top-20 signal caller in the NFL.

“It’s impossible for me to have a higher opinion of Jacoby than I do. I said it last year: I think he’s a top-20 quarterback. I still say that. After watching him for a year, this guy’s really good,” Reich told reporters in March at the NFL owners meetings. “I tell Chris (Ballard – Colts GM) all the time, ‘Please don’t let him go. I don’t care what anybody offers him. Don’t let him go.’’ (Colts)

Andrew Luck also believes that Brissett’s days of being a backup quarterback are coming to an end.

“He’s awesome. One, he’s helped me improve a lot. He’s challenged me in many ways. I’ve learned a bunch from him. I think he’s a really, really, really good quarterback. I don’t know what his path will be, per se. I hope we can play together as long as we can, but I don’t think Jacoby is destined to be a backup forever. I think he’s very talented. I think he works incredibly hard. He works on improving his play as a teammate, quarterback all the time. Again, he’s challenged me and he’s been a pleasure to play with, and will continue to be a pleasure to play with. And we’ve become very good friends in the process so I’m excited about what his very bright future holds.” (NBC)

There is some chirping about Brissett’s trade value. Some are even wondering if he could demand a 1st round pick.

Jacoby gets a chance to show all of the NFL what he’s worth tonight in the Colt’s first preseason game, and I think a big paycheck is looming in his future.
