NC State Football Recruiting Update – August 21, 2019

Not a huge amount of news coming during this month due to the dead period, but there are some tidbits to share.

Upcoming Official Visits:

Target 4* LB Devon Betty is scheduled to take an official visit to Raleigh on September 6th.

Some murmurings that Target 3* LB Jayland Parker (currently committed to Colorado) might be considering taking an official visit to State, looks like if he does it will be in September also.

Spots Left:

Conservative estimates say that State should be taking at least 4 more prospects in the 2020 cycle, but could take as many as 6, particularly with OL Jaylnn Strickland, OT Kendall Brown, and S Tim Kidd-Glass deciding to leave the program. Strickland and Brown will affect scholarship numbers because they were underclassmen, whereas Kidd-Glass will not because he was going to graduate and exhaust his eligibility anyway.

Remaining Targets:

Targets still left on our board include 4* LB Devon Betty, 3* LB Jayland Parker, 3* OT/OG Anthony Carter, 3* DB Joshua Pierre-Louis, 3* DE Sean Martin, 3* LB Jamari Stewart, 3* WR Antonio Barber, 3* OG RJ Adams (currently committed to Penn State), 4* DE Jacolbe Cowan, 3* S Tyler Jones.

I personally don’t think NC State will take another Wide Receiver in this class unless there’s suddenly some unforeseeable attrition.

I think more new targets will emerge as the senior football season and JUCO seasons get underway. I would keep an eye on the Wolfpack potentially adding a JUCO D-Lineman or two in this cycle since they have missed on most of the marquee High School kids.

Keep an eye on 3* DE Kirmani Gainous and 3* DE Deonte Gipson from Hutchinson CC, 3* DT Robert Hentz from Northwest Mississippi CC, 3* DE Anthony Hayes from Southwest Mississippi CC, 3* DE Yaya Diaby from Georgia Military College, 3* DT Kemon Smith from Blinn College, and 3* DT Quay Mays from Northwest Mississippi CC (currently committed to West Virginia – possibly connection to our new Safeties Coach Tony Gibson).
