NC State Offensive Tackle Tyrone Riley To Miss Season

NC State Head Coach Dave Doeren announces at his press conference today that Redshirt Graduate Senior Left Tackle Tyrone Riley will miss the entirety of the 2019 season.

“He’s going to be fine and we’re in the process of applying for Tyrone’s sixth year. So excited to have him back for next season.” Said Doeren

Riley was originally a Defensive End committed to Kentucky, but flipped to NC State, joining the Wolfpack’s 2015 recruiting class. He spent his first two seasons in Raleigh as a Defensive End (2015 – Redshirt), before switching over to Offensive Tackle in 2017. In 2017 he was a backup behind Tyler Jones, and last year to Justin Witt. Riley played in all 13 games last season, starting against Syracuse and ECU. In 285 snaps, he has not allowed a single sack.

Riley was expected to be the starter at Left Tackle heading into this season. This was his time to finally shine.

That time will have to wait. With Redshirt Graduate Senior Emanuel McGirt stepping up in his place now, there will be a need for Riley to fill the gap in 2020, if in fact the NCAA grants him a 6th year of eligibility.
