NC State Men’s Soccer Goes 1-1 on Opening Weekend

NC State Men’s Soccer season kicked off this past weekend. On Friday night, the Wolfpack defeated Loyola 2-1, but fell to 2-1 to St. John’s last night in 2OT. Both games were at home.

Loyola

Junior Jamie Smith scored the first goal of the season 58 minutes into the first game off an assist by Tyler Gabarra and David Loera, breaking a 0-0 halftime score.

Sophomore Kuda Muskwe scored the Wolfpack’s second goal roughly 10 minutes later.

Loyola scored their only goal with less than 6 minutes left, but it wasn’t enough.

The Wolfpack dominated the match, with 17 shots compared to Loyola’s 5. The Wolfpack had 6 shots on goal compared to Loyola’s 1.

St. John’s

The Wolfpack fell in Double Overtime last night 1-0 to St. John’s at home.

St. John’s had 3 shots on goal, compared to NC State’s 2.

With the loss, the Wolfpack snapped a 12-game home winning streak dating back to November 1st, 2017.

Next Match

NC State will host Longwood this Friday, September 6th at 7pm.
