NC State Wide Receiver CJ Riley Will Miss Season With Torn ACL

NC State Head Coach Dave Doeren just reported at his weekly press conference that Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver CJ Riley will miss the remainder of the 2019 season after tearing his ACL in the season opener this past Saturday against ECU.

The injury occurred when Riley was trying to make a tackle on punt coverage.

This is a huge blow for both Riley and the team.

Unfortunately, Riley has already used his redshirt season.

Riley was primed for a breakout season, with his first true opportunity to shine as a starter. Last season he had 28 receptions for 315 yards and 2 touchdowns. Riley is the fastest player on the team, running a 4.39 lawyer 40-yard dash, and was expected to be the Wolfpack’s deep threat this year.

Redshirt Freshman Devin Carter now unexpectedly has a lot of weight on his shoulders, stepping into a starting role earlier than expected. He had 1 reception for 12 yards against ECU on Saturday.

Redshirt Freshman Josiah Provillon will back up Carter.

Also, Graduate Senior Tabari Hines can slide outside, and doesn’t have to serve primarily as a slot receiver.

This is the second time Riley tore his ACL at NC State. He tore his right ACL before the 2016 season, but this time it’s the left knee.
