Colts Give QB Jacoby Brissett a $30 Million 2-Year Extension
After Andrew Luck retired unexpectedly, Jacoby Brissett was named the starting quarterback for the Colts on August 24th. Now he is going to be paid like a starting quarterback.
Last night, the Colts signed Brissett to a 2-year contract extension worth $30 million, with $20 million guaranteed. To put things in perspective, he was entering the final year of his rookie contract this year, and was set to be paid $2 million.
In all reality, the new deal is a restructuring of the final year of his current contract (this year), and an extension of 1-year (next year).
By doing this the Colts avoid having to use the Franchise Tag on Brissett next year, and are paying him more money than their backup. Indianapolis signed Hoyer to a 3-year deal worth $12 million yesterday afternoon to serve as the backup.
