Jaylen Samuels Makes History on Monday Night Football

Jaylen Samuels was a Swiss Army Knife at NC State, and it looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers finally figured that out in the 4th game of Year 2.

Last night Jay Sam threw the ball, ran the ball, and caught the ball. Samuels was 3 for 3 throwing the ball for 31 yards, rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown, and had a team high 8 receptions (8 targets), resulting in 57 yards.

Since 1970, Samuels is only the 2nd player to have 3 completions, 3 rushes and 3 catches in a single game.

In the past 10 years, Samuels is one of only 4 players with 25+ yards passing, receiving, and rushing.

Samuels’ gave the Steelers the ability to run the Wildcat last night, which was the idea of Pittsburgh’s Running Backs Coach Eddie Faulkner, who coached the former All-ACC talent at NC State as a Tight End.

“They trusted me back there, the ball-handling, either keeping it or giving it to (running back) James (Conner),” Samuels explained. “I was just making sure I made it go so they could keep it in.

“On Wednesday we put it in, and after that, throughout the week, we just got better at it and you could see it was just thriving, the Wildcat was just thriving. And they felt good about it going into the game.” (NFL)
